My dearest is an avid coffee drinker. I, on the other hand, am the one who has an abundance of tea wherever one looks in my kitchen - the shelves, the cabinets or nestled amongst my herbs in apothecary jars. And while I live for my tea and leaves, he prefers the smell and taste and aromatics of the divine coffee bean. Normally, I would watch my beloved make coffee, add a plant-based creamer, kiss me softly on my cheek and carry on with his day. Well, after making this for him this mourning.....it is clear to say that he will never make coffee his way again.

Notes of cardamom woven within, along with the saltiness of the salt and sweetness of the agave that resemble caramel notes amongst the black elixir. Strong....potent...and oh, so pleasing....to the eyes and palette.

*Disclaimer: this beverage does contain activated charcoal. If you are taking any medications, please make sure to omit the charcoal as it does have detoxifying properties.

WEAPONS OF CHOICE {TOOLS}

Measuring Spoons

Your favorite glass or chalice

A small cup or bowl

A mortar + pestle (optional)

INGREDIENTS

1 tablespoon instant espresso, finely ground

1 1/2 tablespoons agave nectar or maple syrup

Pinch black salt

Pinch of organic sugar

1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

2-3 tablespoons hot water

1/2 teaspoon food-grade activated charcoal

Cashew Mylk (or any plant or nut mylk of your choosing)

Ice

-LET US BEGIN-

RECIPE

-In your mortar + pestle, place the espresso, cardamom, salt and charcoal; grind to a very fine powder. Then transfer the mixture to a small bowl or cup and set aside.

-Fill your glass or chalice to the brim with ice; add the mylk leaving about a 1/4 of an inch of room; sprinkle a pinch of organic sugar over the top.

-Carefully add the two tablespoons of hot water to the powdered concoction until it reaches a paste like consistency. Next, add the agave and mix well. If still too thick, you way use the remaining tablespoon of hot water to thin it out.

-Slowly pour the black espresso over your mylk in your glass in a gentle circular motion.....and indulge.

Arise.
